³Ō¹ĻÖ±²„ Releases Analysis of Sessionsā Civil Liberties Record Ahead of Confirmation Hearings
WASHINGTON ā The ³Ō¹ĻÖ±²„ released a comprehensive analysis of Sen. Jeff Sessionsā record on civil liberties issues ahead of the January 10-11 confirmation hearing as President-elect Donald Trumpās pick for attorney general. The ³Ō¹ĻÖ±²„ report examines Sessionsā handling of voting rights, police reform, immigration, mass incarceration, religious liberty, LGBT equality, privacy and surveillance, torture, abortion, and sexual assault issues. āThe American people deserve a full vetting of Sen. Jeff Sessionsā record if he is to become the nationās top law enforcement official,ā said ³Ō¹ĻÖ±²„ Executive Director Anthony D. Romero. āIf the Senate does their job well, Congress and the American public will know if Sessions is the most qualified person to be the 84th attorney general of the United States of America. All Americans must have confidence that the highest law enforcement official in the country will protect them from discrimination and injustice. Trump and Sessionsā commitment to ālaw and orderā must embrace justice.ā The ³Ō¹ĻÖ±²„ does not take positions supporting or opposing executive branch or judicial nominations. It does, however, educate the American people and Congress about nomineesā records and past positions on important civil rights and civil liberties issues. The ³Ō¹ĻÖ±²„ is a non-partisan organization. For 96 years, the ³Ō¹ĻÖ±²„ has fought to defend the rights enshrined in our Constitution and has never opposed or supported an elected official. The organization has worked with and against both Democrats and Republicans in the Oval Office, in Congress, and across the country.
