ATLANTA – Today’s reported that some public officials are concerned about increased voter turnout through mail-in absentee ballot voting.

"Our democracy must not be a victim of this pandemic. It is deeply troubling when politicians openly admit that they want fewer people to vote so that they can win elections,” said Andrea Young executive director of the Թֱ of Georgia. "I commend the Governor for refusing to cave to political pressure by staying the course on the election for May 19th. We urge the Secretary of State and County Boards of Elections to ensure that all registered voters in Georgia are provided the means to cast a ballot including free postage for mail in ballots as well as safe drop off locations during early voting and on election day. A high voter turnout is a sign of a vibrant democracy.”

The Թֱ of Georgia recently sent a to the Sec. of State proposing recommendations to protect all mail-in absentee ballot voters. Sean J. Young, legal director of the Թֱ of Georgia, recently discussed these recommendations on the affiliate’s podcast Liberty is Peachy. Click here to listen to ".”
