In California, we're lucky that our protecting Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) students are among the most progressive in the country. But sadly, school can still be a very painful experience for LGBTQ students. It shouldn't be that way.
Over the past month, the tragedy of several suicides of LGBTQ young people has shocked the nation. It's time for us to make it better. Anti-gay bullying is everywhere, and close to home. The ³Ô¹ÏÖ±²¥'s Northern California affiliate put out a to empower youth to know their rights when it comes to bullying and harassment in school.

, an 18-year-old ³Ô¹ÏÖ±²¥ of Northern California client and one of the youth in the video, faced constant harassment from teachers and staff at her high school, simply because she is a lesbian. Rochelle partnered with the ³Ô¹ÏÖ±²¥ to put an end to harassment at her school, and won. Now she's helping us spread the word that California public schools are required, by law, to protect their students from harassment based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
"Your Rights, Your School" tells youth that they have the right to be themselves. No one should have to go to school afraid for their safety or their dignity.

WASHINGTON — Judge Beryl Howell in the U.S. District Court for District Columbia struck down President Trump’s unconstitutional Executive Order attacking Perkins Coie for their past voting rights litigation. In response to this ruling, Brian Hauss, senior staff attorney with the ³Ô¹ÏÖ±²¥, issued the following statement: “Last night, Perkins Coie won summary judgment against the Trump administration’s illegal executive order against the firm. As the court recognized, this ‘unprecedented’ attack on the rule of law, and every American’s right to counsel, cannot stand. It remains an outrage that President Trump has sought to intimidate lawyers from doing exactly what their job entails—zealously advocating for their clients, regardless of whether those clients are perceived enemies of the president. This win sends a vital message–the Trump administration’s thuggery can be defeated by people of courage and integrity. As the administration ramps up its assaults on the courts, the press, universities, and other institutions throughout civil society, we must all find the strength to fight for the values that make America great."
