Discriminatory Treatment of Transgender Parents

The ³Ô¹ÏÖ±²¥ works in courts, legislatures, and communities to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties that the Constitution and the laws of the United States guarantee everyone in this country.

If you've been discriminated against based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or HIV status, the ³Ô¹ÏÖ±²¥ wants to hear about it.

What's at Stake

Transgender parents involved in child custody fights often face baseless arguments that their transition threatens their children and is a reason to restrict or deny custody or visitation. At the ³Ô¹ÏÖ±²¥, we’re fighting to establish clear laws that child custody decisions in cases involving transgender parents must not be based on myths about transgender people. These cases, like all child custody cases, should be decided on an unbiased assessment of the family’s circumstances and the individual needs of the children. For more information about protecting the rights of transgender parents and their children, see here.
